Love Poetry

they write of love
insipid snippets
of feelings thrown
against the wall
to see if they stick

what do they know
of love
changing partners
like I change socks
claiming a higher level
of emotional depth
and yet
it is the opposite
as shallow
as a puddle in the desert
they dramatize
to feel valued
but they don’t know themselves
so how can they love
another
and another

love has depths
curves and corners
it cuts deeply
and soothes softly
it rages and simmers
it sighs
it sneaks a smile

on your face
